Architectural Identity and Locations Expansion Strategy

Architectural and interior design

The project began as an architectural investigation into how a fast-growing brand can develop a spatial language capable of expanding without repetition. LOT office for architecture was appointed to define CAVA’s architectural identity and build a long-term strategy for its nationwide rollout, treating each location not as a standalone design but as part of an evolving system.

Instead of isolated solutions, LOT office for architecture developed a strategic kit-of-parts framework – a modular approach that allows for adaptation, variation, and contextual response while maintaining a recognizable architectural character. This framework was first implemented through the design of five prototype locations across the United States, each acting as a study in rhythm, materiality, and human flow.

In collaboration with CAVA’s team, new spatial typologies were established to organize spatial flow and moments of pause, defining areas for gathering, rest, and informal dining in relation to higher-activity zones. Custom seating structures, partitions, and spatial filters function as anchors within each space, mediating between geometry and experience while introducing tactility and variation.

Material and identity are treated as integral parts of architecture. Screens, perforated volumes, canopies, and layered surfaces define a family of spatial components that carry brand identity through light, shadow, and proportion rather than through decoration. These elements produce visual rhythm and a photographic depth that adapts naturally to changing light and context.

A bright and warm palette grounded in white and neutral tones creates a luminous field where texture, color, and activity become the primary agents of atmosphere. Light is approached as a construction material; contrast as a means of balance. The Mediterranean influence is embedded not as an aesthetic reference but as a spatial attitude, informal, generous, and open to variation.
Through this framework, CAVA’s expanding network becomes a constellation of distinct yet interconnected spaces. The architectural identity established by LOT functions not as a fixed formula but as a design-thinking system built to evolve, adapt, and remain grounded in human experience.
